Embracing Fear: The Secret to Breaking Free from Your Comfort Zone

Updated: Aug 20

In this blog post, we’ll talk about fear, what it can mean in your life, and how to use it to propel you toward success!

Actually fear had been a constant companion throughout my entire life.

Many of us have heard the saying that FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real, and we nod in agreement. It's true for many, and perhaps that's why so many people love horror movies and why Halloween is among the top ten most popular and money-grossing holidays. However, as I reflect on my personal relationship with fear, I've realized that as I've aged, I don't like being afraid. Fear has been a constant companion throughout my life, growing exponentially as I got older. I crave peace and detest stress; heart palpitations don't exhilarate me—they make me ill.

For a long time, I believed that fear was a sign that a decision wasn't right. If it was a good decision, it wouldn't make me nervous or anxious. Right?

We've all heard the phrases, "If you want something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done," or "Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results." We nod in agreement, yet we often avoid decisions that push us out of our comfort zones. We run from decisions that make us nervous or uncomfortable, fearing they won't work out.

But then I had a realization. If I've spent much of my life afraid, doing things that were comfortable; if I've been stressed while doing things for others; if I've harbored a constant companion that made me terrified of making bad choices—why should I be afraid of feeling fear? I should be used to it by now.

I'm tired of playing it safe and letting fear influence every decision. I'm ready to try new things and believe I'm young enough to fall and have time to get up and start again. Since fear has been with me all this time, I'm learning to harness it and let it motivate me to keep moving forward. I don't want to reach the end of my life filled with regrets because I let fear keep me from pursuing my passions.

This blog was born out of that attitude. I hope it will inspire you to try those things you've felt deep inside you should do but were afraid to attempt. You may surprise yourself!
