From Overthinking to Empowerment: Embracing an Active Mind

Have you ever been in a pedicurist's chair, the massage chair kneading your back, and the drone of the vibration lulling you into what should be a state of blissful relaxation? The pedicurist is doing an excellent job, not cutting too close, and there’s no reason to be on edge. Yet, there you are, shoulders taut, feeling a bit jumpy inside, and your mind racing all over the place despite your efforts to calm it.

As an overthinker, I’ve often wished I could just shut my mind off. It always makes me laugh to think about it—if only it were that simple! I know many of you overthinkers out there can relate. But recently, I had a revelation while in that very pedicurist's chair: maybe my overactive mind is actually a superpower.

Instead of seeing my constant thinking as a curse, I began to consider it a gift that I just need to harness properly. It’s like everything that God gives us—there’s always the potential for the enemy or our own selves to twist it into something negative. But if we can train ourselves to see these gifts in a positive light, they can become powerful tools.

So, I started thinking, maybe I shouldn’t call myself an overthinker, a term that carries such a negative connotation. Instead, I’ll say I have an active mind, and that’s my superpower.

As the pedicurist tapped my leg and told me, “You’re finished,” I realized that during the session, I had managed to relax. My shoulders weren’t tense, my heartbeat was calm, and I felt at ease. It struck me that my superpower, my active mind, works best when I view it positively. In that moment, it had given me some truly good results, and I couldn’t wait to sit down and write about it.

The next time you find yourself unable to relax, with your mind running a mile a minute, try to shift your perspective. Embrace your active mind as a superpower and think about how you can train it to work for you, rather than against you. You might just find that this mindset shift brings you not only peace but also a burst of creativity and productivity.

Remember, your mind is a powerful tool. Learn to see it as a gift, and it will serve you well.
